Eco Sponge

$4.00 CAD

Our eco sponges are another great swap for your kitchen. These sponges feel and function like traditional sponges but are completely plant-based, plastic-free and compostable. The white part is spongy and absorbent, made of wood pulp while the yellow-brown part is scrubby and helps soap become sudsy, made of loofah.

Loofah has been used by different cultures for centuries before plastic was mass-produced. It replaces traditional plastic sponges in dishwashing and general household cleaning.

I've been testing out a few types of sponges and brushes because we hand wash our dishes and would like something durable and compostable. This sponge isn't bad, but it's not as “scrubby” as I'd like. It stays pretty stiff and gets super thick when wet, which makes it hard to get into corners and small areas. The actual fibers are pretty smooth, which doesn't scrub tough messes as much as I'd like. I can see why luffa is typically used as a bath sponge. Price is right though and would be good for someone who doesn't hand wash only.

I found this too bulky and hard to be a regular dishwashing sponge - it wouldn't bend to fit in a glass. I love that it's fully compostable - most of the 'natural' ones have plastic.

Amazing! Works exactly like a traditional sponge you'd buy from the pharmacy or grocery store, but the fact it's biodegradable makes it that much better. Plus we find the scrubby side more effective than a traditional sponge and it lasts longer!
